The Fabricated Website Development Steps

Planning Stage

  • After we receive your website design quote request, we may contact you in order to further determine your needs, why you are using a website and to get an idea of what it is you do. Our getting started tips and techniques page can help you with this if you get stuck or have problems getting started.
  • Once we determine that thefabricatedweb would be beneficial to your website development project, we will quote you the best price we can, per page, per project or per hour.
  • When our quote is accepted and we have a clear understanding on project details, timeline and price, we will prepare a website development contract for you to review, sign and send back with your deposit. (Deposits are not required for websites under $750.00) Once we have received your signed contract, we can begin the design phase of your website project.
  • If needed, we will immediately secure your desired domain name, if available, or help you select another domain name that is available. The cost of registering your domain for the first year is included in the quote, is registered in your name and you will be the registrant contact on file.
  • While we do not offer website hosting, we can recommend a hosting company, or use the hosting service of your choice.
  • The developer in charge of your project will email you to confirm receipt of your deposit/contract, give you their direct Contact the FW and possibly provide a list of items which will be needed from you over the course of development.
  • If we are not supplying the logo/banner or content for your website, this is when you will need to provide all text and/or content to be included on your website and any logos, personal photos or other material that we may not have. We will also need to know what navigational links to include, i.e., contact pages, company information, services.

Design Stage

  • Once we have all the information we need from you, we will provide at least 2 custom designs for you to review, usually within 5 - 7 days. After you decide which design to use, we will continue to make modifications until the desired result is achieved. Once this is completed we will go ahead with the internal page markup, any necessary scripting or programming and create the final product.
  • If specified, we will create your logo or other designated artwork during this stage. As with the web site design, we will create and present at least 2 of each specified artwork for your approval. Once you select a design, we will modify these until satisfacation is achieved.
  • During this time, you will have the opportunity to review your pages by following a link we will send you when the design phase begins. This will give you the opportunity to catch errors, make corrections and simply track the progress of your website.

Development Stage

  • Perform the coding/programming needed to add user interactivity or other special features.
  • Create the specified pages (dynamic and static) agreed upon during the planning stage.
  • Navigational functions are created and applied, per specifications
  • Site Map Creation: A site map is a page of text links that provide one-click access to all the pages on your website. This feature is necessary to make your website universally accessible.
  • Style sheets are created that define all major elements of a web page. Using style sheets gives your web pages consistency and eliminates the need to make site wide changes and maintenance on every web page in your site.
  • Create response or contact forms, if specified. This allows users to email you directly without having to call up their own e-mail program, difficult if they are accessing your website from a computer other than their own.

Testing and Correction Stage

  • Grammer and Spelling is checked.
  • Navigational links are checked for accuracy
  • Test any programming or forms that may be present to ensure they perform properly.
  • Perform a cross browser compatibility check for proper display and function on all major browsers.
  • Meta tags, alt image tags, link text, titles, heading and other such elements are checked and verified.

Launch Stage

  • All necessary website files, scripts and databases are copied and setup on your domain
  • Interactive features, scripts and correct server responses are tested and corrected if necessary.
  • We provide you with any necessary documentation needed to administer your website.
  • We will perform initial submission of your website to major search engines and directories and provide you with a list detailing which engines and directories and directions on how to continue submitting to those engines and directories. If a maintenance contract has been drawn up we will continue performing this tasks for you.
  • For a period of 3 weeks from launch date, we will perform minor changes and corrections to your website free of charge. After this period, any changes taking more than 1 hour in a week will require an additional charge.
